Nice political response by DA Price, but there is a wide-spread feeling that she is more on the side of the criminals, than the victims... and is thus not representing the people's interests. Kind of like former-DA Boudin in SF.

I'm not a lawyer, but doesn't it seem like the DA should be tough on crime and then that gets balanced out by the PD office and other defense attorneys?

No real basis for a recall. She ran on a platform that she was going to blow up the office and "fire all the motherf@ucks" (a quote from an anti police rally).
The citizens of Alameda County got the DA they voted for and deserve. The juries are soft because the murders aren't happening in their neighborhoods.

The recall effort reminds me of Englishmen crying about Brexit when they are the morons that voted for it.

"Special Note In performing its duties, the Grand Jury relies on the advice of the District Attorney, the Presiding Judge of the superior court, and the County Counsel. In Alameda County, the county has assigned district attorney staff to act as the primary legal advisors to the grand jury, including a full-time Assistant District Attorney as legal advisor and a full-time Senior Program Specialist for administrative and procedural support. In the event the District Attorney's (DA) office has a conflict of interest, the jury must confer with the presiding judge and county counsel to arrange alternative legal advice. On August 10, 2022, at our first committee meeting, we were informed that the DA's office had a conflict of interest with one of the investigations. For that investigation, the DA's office withdrew its assistance and was "walled off" from all information and communication; a legal advisor was appointed from the county counsel's office. The district attorney staff continued to provide support for all other investigations. Then, in January 2023, seven months into the 12-month term, the DA's office abruptly withdrew all legal, administrative, and procedural support and ceased all communication with the grand jury citing a conflict of interest. Immediately, the jury's investigations came to a near standstill. The Grand Jury had already requested the assistance of staff to contact over a dozen witnesses, and no longer had a clear legal way to request them. Over the following three months, while the presiding judge searched for a new legal advisor, the jury worked to establish ad hoc procedures for arranging and conducting witness interviews and to rekindle stalled investigations. In April 2023, a temporary legal advisor was hired from outside the county. The expertise and support of the Senior Program Specialist was not replaced, leaving the jury on its own to format, design and produce the final report. It is an understatement to say that this unprecedented months-long disruption challenged our ability to fully conduct and conclude our investigations and produce this report within the limit of our term. We, the grand jurors, with the help of the Presiding Judge, County Counsel and others, have overcome this challenge and fully stand behind the investigations reported here. We would like to extend a special thank you to Presiding Judge Smiley for his commitment and persistence in supporting us in our time of need."

Also, by the way, that was a great video of the black guy clearly being singled out by the cop who pulled him over and asked him personal questions because he went 65 in a 70. The driver's behavior was great, under the circumstances. The officer should be given a warning. That is the type of stuff I can stand behind you when you rant about how bad cop activity is. Of course, I do grimace when you use specific events to broadcast all cops as bad and racist.

" OAKLAND In a defiant court appearance Friday, a former Alameda County prosecutor blasted the District Attorney's Office for exposing his address and other identifying information in court documents related to his pending misdemeanor case.

Amilcar "Butch" Ford, a veteran prosecutor who was charged this week by District Attorney Pamela Price's office, said his information was public for two days, exposing him to potential harm by the killers, robbers and rapists he worked to put behind bars.

Calling the breach "inexcusable," Ford, a fierce critic of Price, alleged it was done intentionally.

Leah Abraham, a deputy district attorney in Price's office, said in court that the exposure of personal information was not done purposefully and redacted documents had since been filed."

*Cal Bear Emilie Raguso writes the best articles. Madame DA tried to have her physically removed from a proceeding (court or press conference) until she was advised by her staff that was unlawful to do so.
*I find it humorous when former public defenders are brought in as deputy district attorneys. They come from a system where they have no burden of proof and are often given great leeway to make wild allegations with no supporting evidence. They are actually incapable of putting on a case that meets the burden of proof when they serve as prosecutors. Butch Ford and his counsel are going to eat their breakfast, lunch and dinner.
