When these projects started I wondered to myself who was going to be able to afford the rent. In 2017 did my Land Use final project on the MacArthur Bart housing TOD and the subsequent changes in Height allowance which accommodated the tower. The mix use space on the street level has never been leased...alot of dwellings that are unaffordable

I saw clips from the slideshow/takeover on Claremont a couple weeks ago I saw 1 person that may have been black everyone else Hispanics/arab/ Asians out of 100-200 people.
The Original Sideshows had rules to be adhered to … now it's mad max school. I have been studying some other cities around the country dealing with slideshow/takeover activity. I don't know if those tactics would produce the similar results here. I learned today loren agreed to spend money on anti takeover traffic mitigation that Failed miserably because he along with lose tasked wit dealing with the problem did have clue ( good money wasted).

Unless the next mayor brings close to livable wage jobs that can afford to feed cloth and house individuals in Oakland the poverty will continue to consume all band aid efforts(waste of time and taxpayer $$$)

Hard to say why they had to move to get rid of her so early and potentially pay a buyout (her contract said she was going to leave in a year or two anyway), but if you look at the voting it's the four teachers' union backed candidates that voted for it, which indicates that it's the union that wanted it. Presumably they want the board to install a new, more union-friendly supe.

Honestly, the more I've looked into this district the more I think that union is an absolute menace. They worked hard to prevent schools from reopening after COVID, they staged a two-week strike for totally vague reasons two years ago (even though the district had already offered the raises they wanted), and are now angling to do another one because they claim the district wouldn't produce some documents in time. I've also seen reports of their leaders harassing principals in their offices, blocking doors and trying to prevent them from leaving.

I will say that nothing turned people in big cities against teachers' unions more than the end of COVID. In most places that reopened schools very late, a teachers' union was the main reason. Democratic politicians have not yet caught up to this shift.

But that said, it's more than just "Democrats." It's more a classic tale of a powerful interest group maneuvering to get its way against the better interests of the public. That kind of thing happens all over the political spectrum. In fact, part of the reason I really dislike what's been happening in the local school district is that the tactics remind me of how the Trump people operate: decide on an ideological goal, ignore all available evidence against the policy, and dismiss the obvious harm your aggressive tactics are creating. This is in service of totally different goals than what Trump wants, but the bad governance is similar.
