It's hard not to come off as a clown in these formats. I empathize with them having to make a mark on these "debates". Which of course, nothing about these when it's got 10 people is a debate. It's a series of questions posed at individuals who get 60 seconds to answer *I mean make their pitch*.

It's funny that people think 30 minute long form interviews would be boring. I mean if last night's "debate" doesn't qualify as boring (and lame and uninformative), what does?

Long-form interviews are a dime a dozen. There are countless podcasts of people interviewing people. There are countless web shows where people interview people each other.

When a popular person like Aaron Rodgers submits to a 2-hour interview, and nobody cares, you know the format isn't special.

Viewers aren't going to tune into an interview with a candidate, who has done many interviews. They want something special. Something with the potential for drama. The debate format, as bad as it is, offers something unique. An interview does not.

Podcasts are extremely popular because they have high advertising rates compared to other digital ads.

There's more to it than just the below, like very low production and start-up costs and super easy delivery. It can be a 1 or 2 person crew. These are the reasons why there's so many podcasts.

That Slate piece is trash, which doesn't surprise me as it is Vox's ugly step sibling. Shows a video of Rogan with Sam Harris -- a bona fide liberal who is critical of leftist apologetics regarding Islam, speech, and ethics -- and reflexively dismisses their criticism of PC culture as some sort of tacit endorsement of racist and bigoted speech, and also some form of apologetics for white men saying stupid things.

I mean yeah, triggered liberals probably won't care to come on his show. But some triggered leftists like Ana Kasperian, Cenk Uygur, Brett Weinstein, Bari Weiss, Abby Martin, Russel Brand go on and they have pleasant conversations. Weird. Put another way, an overwhelming majority of his guests *aren't* conservative.

I'm a little surprised only two-of-ten raised their hands when asked if they'd give up their cadillac private insurance for government run health care



I've had uninterrupted employer-provided private health insurance in my name since I was 18 with a handful of carriers, both HMOs and PPOs and 70/30 coinsurance plans. They've all been trash. I honestly can't make out what I should owe for this service and that service when reading the plans and what it covers. And I haven't needed care for any major health issues.

All my MDs were most interested in seeing as many patients as possible to collect payments, over-booking patients (because why not), never refilling prescriptions over the phone (because why not force them to come in and collect $125 from insurance for a 90 second "consult"?). Every 5 minutes for 7 hours seeing a patient at $125 ea is $10,500/day. Mostly to be a professional drug gatekeeper. Needing referrals to see a specialist or get tests done makes some sense if the government is fitting the bill, but not when the patient and insurance are.

But obviously I'd have been relatively screwed without my trash insurance from cheap, employer subsidized monthly premiums (always less than $80/month). Most middle class and above families employer insurance and are shielded from the real cost of health care and the idea of flipping that upside down makes people nervous. It's hard to get public support when *most* people are covered.

Kind of odd to me that the big slam dunk moment of the night was on bussing to desegregate. I was bussed in a desegregation plan and it was terrible. Kamala Harris may have had a good experience but I don't think most bussed kids did (in fairness, I haven't spoken to many blacks about their bussing experience). My view is that you don't use kids to solve adult problems. Kids should go to school in their communities. Communities should be desegregated (easier said than done, I know).

I really don't understand your point. I was in a middle class home and got bussed to desegregate. That's irrelevant to the issue. She was part of the 2nd class to desegregate. You shouldn't presume to speak for her experience.

I really don't understand your point. I was in a middle class home and got bussed to desegregate. That's irrelevant to the issue. She was part of the 2nd class to desegregate. You shouldn't presume to speak for her experience.

You're trying hard not to, it's quite simple.

She has an upper middle class background and has not faced the kind of social and racial adversity growing up that many of her older African American peers faced, and that she is implying she has faced in her tweet above.

You're the one who is digging deeper here, pushing the notion that going to school in 1977 Berkeley or 1980 Westmount, Canada as a minority daughter of college professors had anything to do with the experience of 1960s school busing pioneers. I don't think Harris was even really "bused", she has never lived in an urban ghetto.
