Correct. Democrats in the 80s were the birth of neoliberals, in response to the supposed "tax and spend" liberals of the late '60s and '70s (especially a guy like George McGovern who got shellacked by Nixon in '72). "Neoliberal" has a bad connotation now, but the general idea was that, for America to prosper, government cannot totally stifle the private sector. Bill Clinton was basically the culmination of the movement, but now both parties recognize that, to some extent, businesses need to be able to prosper (though with some regulation).

Trump is a faux-populist, who talks about tariffs (usually a bad idea), but at the same time strips away most regulation, taxes and oversight of businesses (especially ones he is personally involved in).


The reason they use the term "neoliberal" (which is an academic term) is to remove the political reality and blame-shift away from conservatives.

You may not be aware, but in the 1980s there was this guy named Ronald Reagan. He had more power than Democrats. He was the birth of the current conservative neoliberal trickle down structure that has dominated our system since. It has failed the American people. His party has been taken over by a buffoonish cult. But they seek the same conservative neoliberal trickle down policies that Democrats have been pushing back against since the 1980s. But they call these policies neoliberal to blame-shift. They pulled the complete jedi mind trick on you, who just blamed the policies of the 80s on the democrats (and don'ttry to blame the conservative dixiecrats whose descendants are now all MAGAts).

Interesting discussion. It seems to me that those on the conservative end of the spectrum here hold a variety of views on various issues and "conservative" candidates but those of the left will defend to the death anyone in the Democratic Party and all their positions (only slight exaggeration) with the exception of traditionalists like RFK Jr., Tulsi, etc (and that is really an extension of that same mentality because the traditionalists attack some of the shibboleths of the progressive left).

Though a conservative, I am a populist because the policies of pseudo free trade and endless war have put the nation on disastrous course. The former has been great for multinationals and for consumers in the short term, but the long-term deterioration of our competitive position far outweighs these benefits imo. Asset prices are not an accurate measure of wealth. Two things have kept the wheels on so far--the Big Tech boom and the shale revolution--but trend is toward economic calamity, and with it, a breakdown of social cohesion.

I laugh when I hear people like Kamala talk about ending fracking. It just goes to show how completely ignorant some people are about what keeps our country running in 2024. Fracking is the only thing keeping us from Weimar meets Mad Max.

"Shibboleths" That reminds me when Mockingbird mainstream media parrots the same phrase across networks and stations. It's like the rhetorical device of repetition, only, I suspect there's more to it than that. AP puts out a wire with bullet points of a news event, but who influences the content in the AP? Are we being mass controlled with something like MK Ultra?

If any lesson was learned this week is that tRump should never be put in a situation where he feels pressured to actually try to formulate an answer to a question.

*In a debate he views every question as a cue to regurgitate a mind numbing talking point, regardless of whether it is responsive to the question.

*At the Black Journalist Conference debacle, tRump introduced the technique of asking the questioner 3 times for the definition/including her definition of DEI so he could buy some time to come up with an answer to the question posed (Why should Blacks trust you?)

I appreciate your honesty.

I will honestly admit that Trump's campaign badly needs to enhance the message of national unity, because attacking Harris more than her policies is off-putting, especially for childless cat ladies. So, I think Trump's advisors need to revamp the rhetoric and stance to be more inclusive. My Spidey senses feel that there's some confusion and angst in Trump's inner circle. Right now, Trump's at risk of looking like a biological male beating the **** of women in the boxing ring.

Oh, and Kamala's bump is for real, my fellow Republicans. The best explanation I have I heard is that 20% disaffected voters, who disliked both Biden and Trump, now, feel they have someone to vote for that's not-Trump.
To be clear, I think there's many Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) who would vote for HItler, if Hitler changed his name, his appearance, and ran against Trump.

Both statements can be simultaneously true, in the second statement, add the word, "illegal" in front of immigrants.
