President Trump routinely gave long pressers, and when the press got nasty, he moved them out onto the WH driveway. He'd take any and all questions, grilling the Fake News engineers along the way.

I'm not gonna lie, I've never been a Trump fan, but I loved this ^ about him! Especially during the COVID crisis, when the nation needed to be reassured, we were lucky to have a strong leader out there for us almost every day with his team of experts, giving us the scientific and medical facts we needed, in order to get through it all.

Don't you realize that Republicans don't have the sarcasm gene when it comes to compliments?

I don't care what Republicans have or do not have. When times were tough in 2020, those press conferences with Donald J. Trump helped me get through it all. Especially the "disinfectant" one. That was a one-of-a-kind day for me. Unforgettable.

Why doesn't Trump just do the ABC debate he agreed to?
Because he's suing them.
Trump sued ABC in March and agreed to a debate on their network in June. This argument doesn't hold water.
Trump also never agreed to debate Kamala.

Those weren't the debate terms, though. Here they are:

https://abc.com/news/adaaae86-2621-41c7-b8f3-33a5215783f2/category/1138628

Quote:

All participants must meet the requirements outlined in Article II, Section I of the U.S. Constitution to serve as president and must have filed a Statement of Candidacy with the Federal Election Commission. All participants must appear on a sufficient number of state ballots, as certified by the Secretary of State or the relevant election authority in each state, to attain a majority (270) of electoral votes in the presidential election by Sept. 3, 2024. All participants must agree to accept the rules and format of the debate, as formulated by ABC News.

All participants must reach at least 15% support in four separate national polls of registered or likely voters that meet ABC News standards and the following additional requirements:
Joe Biden's name is not mentioned. It just says the debate is between candidates who appear on enough ballots and have good enough polling numbers. That's what they agreed to. Trump backed out.

He was quite willing to debate a half dead old man on CNN with Jake Tapper moderating. Tapper let him be non responsive and lie his @$$ off so he should not have a problem with a debate on ABC except…,

As he demonstrated at the Black Journalist Conference, he cannot be involved in a give and take with anyone with a functioning brain…..unless he sets all the rules and the format.

If I'm not mistaken, CNN made some kind of statement suggesting it was their decision not to fact-check Trump (or Biden) in real-time during the debate.

However, then we hear that Trump and his handlers were demanding that the NABJ moderators give him the same privilege not to be fact-checked in real time.

Which leads me to wonder whether it was really "CNN's decision," or more accurately, "CNN's concession to Trump's pre-debate demands".

You can be certain that no Fox "News" debate moderator will ever fact-check Trump. They know it goes without saying that this is his demand.

Is this the VP thread?

If so, Walz sounds good every time I hear him speak.

Democrats know they can't win based on reasoning and arguments, if they did, they wouldn't have to interfere with the electoral process.

I have heard Walz twice in longish interviews. He's great. Eloquent and very fast on his feet. He also has "the great American resume"*. His biggest drawback is that he looks like a soon-to-retire banker from Tulsa. But that's okay, it might help calm potential swing voters.

Honestly, I wish he were on the top of the ticket, but I would settle for second spot.

* was a high school social studies teacher (okay, he had me right there), during which he taught for a year in China

while teaching was also football coach and coached his team to their first state championship

joined the Army Reserves during that time and served for 24 years, including multiple deployments

four terms in the US Congress (i'm big on congressional experience)

elected Governor of Minnesota, then got reelected (i'm also big on executive experience, such as governor or mayor)

And Dean Phillips is from Minnesota, too. Hmmm. Maybe there is a reason why my two friends from Minnesota want to move back... except for the weather. I'm definitely for a return to reasonable politicians.

I suppose in some alternate universe, everything you type makes sense and has a point.

In this timeline, not so much. Other than: "Dems evil; Orange Man great!"
"There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." -- (maybe) Benjamin Disraeli, popularized by Mark Twain

Here's to "reasonable"!!!

Walz looks like he could be competitive in a "most boring man" competition... until he starts talking. Very well-spoken!

Japan has a lot of endemic economic issues, but I wonder how much the current geopolitical situation affected this sharp drop in the Nikkei. If war breaks out between Israel/US and Iran, the Straight of Hormuz and flow of GCC oil and LNG could be blocked, which would bring the Japanese economy to a halt.

Japan rebounds?

Our debt is insane. Colonel McGregor claims we've spent $14 Trillion on military conflicts since 2000 (MovieLover channels 1980s liberals)...

Japan - massive debt, no growth, aging population. Sound familiar? Not all Biden/Kamala doing. Until we get leaders to act like leaders and not virtue signal we will continue to go down the toilet.
And I'm looking forward, actually, in hearing both sides call me names.

Not exactly. Biden-Harris:

- added unneeded, additional Trillions in Covid spending (graft)
- the Green New Deal spurred hyper inflation
- Biden-Harris extended unneeded Lockdowns
- Biden-Harris opened our secure southern border, bringing in 10-15 Million illegal, unvetted immigrants
- which ^^^ added Billions more in social spending and chaos
- Biden-Harris rejected multiple offers from Mr. Putin for Ukraine negotiations
- Biden-Harris quashed a Russia-Ukraine peace deal in spring 2022 (Istanbul)
- Biden-Harris-Austin's goal was to "weaken Russia"; not peace
- Biden-Harris have failed to provid needed ammunition for NATO ("surge capacity") while promoting war
- Biden-Harris could have at least provided American military doctors to aid Ukraine, but also failed there
- Biden-Harris have made new fracking permits almost impossible to obtain; hurting American jobs and families (energy inflation)
- the Fed had to raise interest rates bc of the profligate Biden-Harris spending
- the pro-crime Kamala Harris policies have gutted American cities, turning many into dystopian Mad Max movies
- the anti-American Biden-Harris philosophy has gutted military recruitment and turned our military into a DEI experiment

Looks like Harris VP pick Waltz:

- broke his 6-year military commitment
- failed to complete officer training
- QUIT BEFORE HIS BATALLION WENT TO IRAQ
- lied about the above facts
