Not taking the bait from a racist. No thanks.

However, here is another example. Earlier this week, a liberal here posted a misleading publication about how Trump signed an executive order allowing teachers to beat their students. This was false, but it did roll back a Democrat executive order that hamstrung teachers from imposing discipline on minority statements because this discipline was viewed as racist.

Here is how Democratic ludicrousness affects me. My son has a classmate who has some sort of mental disorder which can't be disclosed by the school. That classmate is larger than other kids and has fits of anger. I found out months into the school year, after my son and a few others were verbally threatened at lunchtime, that the classroom has been evacuated multiple times because of fits of violent anger from the child. The classroom has a safe word so everyone knows when to evacuate. However, the school cannot force the kid to be educated in the existing special needs classroom because the parents don't want him to and California law, IN THIS INSTANCE, gives the parents the choice. The school is apparently hamstrung and 25 other students have their education impaired by one violent, special needs child.

Oakland Parking Enforcement is about to be ramped up to increase incoming revenue for the city budget.

Watch the meters .

Why did parking enforcement slacked off ? I don't know if this will be a net gain at the end of the day … most people with cars ten yrs and older are not going pay multiple parking tickets, said vehicle is then booted and impounded which means
Towing
Storage while processing lien sale
Pennies on the dollar to tow company and at best after auction
collection order for the fees.

What about traffic enforcement? In the 80's and 90's there was a concern about getting a ticket. Now it's mad max school , drivers don't give a damn.

Is this what Fisherman's Wharf looks like these days?

This place survived the Great Depression but couldn't get past today's politicians. So said.

Two steps forward, one step back: Oakland school district finally leaves state receivership, but the school board decides to "celebrate" the occasion by suddenly dismissing the popular, hometown favorite superintendent in a surprise move.

Hard to say why they had to move to get rid of her so early and potentially pay a buyout (her contract said she was going to leave in a year or two anyway), but if you look at the voting it's the four teachers' union backed candidates that voted for it, which indicates that it's the union that wanted it. Presumably they want the board to install a new, more union-friendly supe.

Honestly, the more I've looked into this district the more I think that union is an absolute menace. They worked hard to prevent schools from reopening after COVID, they staged a two-week strike for totally vague reasons two years ago (even though the district had already offered the raises they wanted), and are now angling to do another one because they claim the district wouldn't produce some documents in time. I've also seen reports of their leaders harassing principals in their offices, blocking doors and trying to prevent them from leaving.
And now the teachers union wants to go on strike again, after just agreeing to a new contract in 2023. (Would only be a one-day strike if it happens.)

The thing is, a clear majority of the school board was endorsed by the union! If they're having trouble negotiating with those people, I think the problem is with the union reps.

Strike got called off at the last minute. I was hearing from some friends who work in the district that a number of teachers were planning on breaking the strike and going to work anyway, so that may have been the reason. Support was not really there for it.

The district budget is still a mess because everyone refuses to cut anything despite falling enrollment, so we might be back on this roller coaster again soon!

Does anyone have the exit poll numbers ?

Did the recall get substantially more signatures than votes in the mayoral race ? Outside of the two front runners none of the other candidates scratched the surface. All that money Loren and his backers spent on IG ads ( mostly with blocked or restricted comments) got him close but no cigar.

Apparently there are community members who are looking into putting city of Oakland charter amendments on the ballot. The city manager welds too much concentrated power. But I think they are still missing what is in-between Oakland's problems and tangible changes.

I wonder who will run next year and on what platform. Who will win next cycle ?

Thinking of the city budget does OPD have an excessive force lawsuits problem like the LApd ?
"FY2025, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has paid out $107 million in liability, with $52 million specifically for excessive/unlawful use of force and civil rights violations. This figure represents a significant portion of the total LAPD liability payouts, which also include traffic collisions, professional negligence, and employment-related issues."

Beating Barbara Lee in Oakland was always going to be a tall order. She's an institution in that town and Taylor did well to even make it close. But Lee is also 78 years old so she'll have to pass the torch pretty soon. We'll see where it goes from there.

Something is off about this situation... Something is not adding up I'd like to read the report. I have noticed it's 5-6 "accounts" across all social media platforms just points out negative things majority. They give paid propaganda vibes like that transplant Seneca Scott. I Wonder why he didn't run for mayor again? The jig was up after the recall ?

What exactly is off here about that shooting at the downtown Oakland restaurant?

"Facts:
Shooting occurred at 8:16 p.m. on May 2, 2025, at Pierre Pierre, an upscale steak and Southern food restaurant.

A 24-year-old Richmond man was hit multiple times, and a 31-year-old Oakland woman was hit at least once during dinner service.

Both victims secured transportation to different Bay Area hospitals and were reported in stable condition.

Bullet holes and a fractured window were visible on the Franklin Street side of the Tribune Tower on May 3, 2025.

An Alameda County Sheriff's deputy arrested a 26-year-old driver after observing him discard a semi-automatic weapon into bushes while transporting the wounded man to the hospital.

Investigators believe the driver was not connected to the shooting.

No arrests related to the shooting itself had been made as of midday on May 3, 2025.

The Oakland Police Department has not disclosed a motive for the shooting.

The restaurant, owned by rapper JackBoy and chef Cleashaun Hill, was forced to close temporarily, with Hill posting footage of blood on the floor."

Some street stuff spilled over into a public shooting(sloppy job) ... He was known for kicking hornets nests. I guess he thought is was ok to move around freely. Hope no bystanders got injured. The co owner on the tape calling the establishment hi end/fine dining is reach. **** happens, Oakland didn't wish this on your restaurant all of Oakland wasn't responsible. They seemed more upset at the inconvenience versus the people who were shot.

So, I'm in Yokohama, Japan on a business trip and I have to say, it's spotless. Crowded but clean. The subway cars are clean, the station is clean. there's no trash, there aren't any trash receptacles anywhere. How is this possible? How are elementary school kids walking the subway stations with no parental supervision? Where did the Japanese hide all the homeless people?

Japan does have its homeless, that population is small relative to the US', but it is rising. They are hidden out of sight and live on city edges, or as working poor, frequent net cafes which have shower facilities. They also have had a class of untouchables, the Burakumin, for centuries, tradition that is still ongoing today.
