Why would anyone believe him when he says our economy and the stock market will be better than ever? Unemployment is going to rise, consumer confidence has fallen, personal and business bankruptcies will skyrocket. This is going to cause a massive demand shock and the market will reflect it accordingly. The only question is precisely how much and it will depend in large part on how quickly we can move past the worst of it and begin to re-assemble public life, not just here but worldwide.

I don't like being mislead or lied to but maybe that's just me.

LOL, Newt Gingrich: Somebody who hasn't been relevant for over twenty years, but doesn't know it or doesn't want to admit it. Desperately hanging on to the end of Trumps's frayed coattails.

The left wing corporate media is dishonest, but their dishonesty is much more selective than the right wing media, which is lying at a "conservative" estimate of 90% of the time. In regards to the virus, they had no economic skin in the game where lying about the virus would have benefited their backers, so there was no incentive to be dishonest there.

Yup. But it looks like temporary UBI is almost certainly going to happen now. All it takes is a massive public health crisis.

Must be fake news. I have it under good authority that Republicans don't like taxpayer funded stimulus. Based on my recollection from a decade ago, conservatives will be arguing for stiff upper lips, belt tightening and a quick recovery based on natural market forces. I look forward to fiscal conservatism reducing our deficits and continuing to grow the economy even in the face of challenges.

For the record, I'm not criticizing this decision. I'm criticizing Republicans' previous hard-line resistance to much more limited versions of it.

How novel.

Moreover, it's not a contradiction to be against welfare generally and support a stimulus during a worldwide pandemic with epic temporary impact on the economy.

It's good to know that Republicans can actually support solutions they once decried as "socialist" if the situation gets bad enough.

I'm not even being sarcastic about that -- it's genuinely good to know that. I had a lot of doubts that they would ever do so.

He's referring to trying to bail out Bush before fighting Obama tooth and nail on any spending to boost the economy. That would be 15 years after Clinton had to pass his economic recovery package, that worked to great effect, without a single Republican vote. Because socialism is only for rich people, corporations, and bailing out Republican presidents. By the way that would be the same Clinton that was the fiscally irresponsible guy that last balanced the budget.

This is also what I recall. And the bailout under Bush was largely to save the banks, yes? Not a lot going into the common man's pocket in that one. Then Obama's stimulus package was constantly derided and watered down as much as possible by Republicans.

Republicans virtue signal about spending a lot. No disagreement there.

Jared's high school teachers were furious his dad got him into Harvard because they thought he was mediocre squared. His business career is defined by the purchase of that 666 building that was going tittie up until he got a Russian bailout. If he stiffs the Russians they will find his 110 pound body wrapped in plastic, with his hands and feet cut off, at the bottom of an aqueduct.
