Now Trump is openly calling for revolt against democratic governors. He continues to sink lower than anyone thought possible.
This right here is the big problem with Trump's response: the inconsistency of his plan and messaging. Just yesterday he rolled out some broad guidelines for ending the quarantines and said that state and local governments would have to make decisions based on those guidelines. That's fine. Maybe the plan is a little vague, but it's fine.

Then the next day he's telling people in some states to flout their governors' orders and protest against the quarantine restrictions. So which is it? What's the message here? Does the federal government actually have a plan?

Because it allows him to be what got him elected, and what he does best, act as the anti- elite insurrectionist. Fighting for the little guy against the establishment keeping them away from their livelihood- the fact that some Republican Governors are also the establishment is a minor detail. This is why the "fake resistance" portrayal of Trump as a Nazi is so inaccurate and wrong. He does things for his own narcissism and narrow political reasons not for seizing and consolidating power. Hitler would have seized complete power by now and the opposition would be all dead.
Yes, initially I was worried about Trump leading an authoritarian takeover but it's now clear that he doesn't care about that, he just cares about his own ego. A true authoritarian would actually be concerned with running the government competently.

Can tRump win in 2020?

" Yes," said Tim O'Brien, the Trump biographer who's a columnist for Bloomberg Opinion and served as a senior adviser for Mike Bloomberg's presidential bid. "He is so uniquely pathologic and uniquely remorseless, and I think it gives him this reptilian energy to continuously deny, spin and move forward," O'Brien continued. "And November's a long way off."

" And that story is?

"The story is," he said, shifting into the ominous voice of a classic political ad narrator, "the nation faced its greatest crisis since the Second World War. And we were led by a president who had been hobbled by people who had tried to destroy him from Day One. The economy was in tatters. Millions were out of work. What did Donald Trump do? He did what all great American leaders have done. X, Y, Z. Now, despite what we've been through, this most extraordinary nation, blessed by God, is on its way back. It won't be easy, but we're going to get there, because Donald Trump is leading the way."

The Trump campaign has also indicated that the campaign rallies he loves to do will return in 2020. The only issue with this is it could turn out to be to the benefit of the Democrats. Those rallies where he is packing thousands of people into an arena could backfire if the attendees start to test positive for COVID 19 after attending those rallies. Who knew the Idiot in Chief might be responsible for the greatest voter suppression efforts in favor of the Democrats.

This is going to be similar to the culture wars of Colin Kaepernick, and is exactly what Trump needs right now. A distraction from the overall pandemic that divides the country and fires up his base, this is where he thrives. His core base will get passionate, then their anger will lead to stupidity, the lies and conspiracy theories will start to spread, and the alternate universe where this is all Democrat's fault and a conspiracy of some sort will take hold with a substantial minority of the population.

People don't need a reason to be angry at Democrats, nor a conspiracy theory. Those will naturally appeal to the Trump crowd, but then they were never going to vote for Biden anyway.

Hilarious that the Democrats want to recruit those people, but not the voters in their own party.

I don't think Democrats want to recruit Trump's core base. The problem with his tactics, is that when he divides the country, the emotionally charged nature of which ever issue he is using, makes the independents take sides and become entrenched. In this way, Trump gains support from independents that would typically not support him or even like him. These independents are the people Democrats are targeting.

"Hilarious" that any Democrat in a purple state would need to be "recruited" to vote for Biden in November, having seen nearly four years of President Donald Trump and having noted the endorsements of Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.

Over 1/3 of your party would like Biden to suck eggs. And you don't think that's a problem that requires some attention?

How does the minority party in this country (there are more Republicans than Democrats, more Republican states than Democratic states and more Independents than either party) expect to win when they are calling 1/3 of their own party deplorables? Do you even know how to convince somebody of your position?

Nobody- outside of this board- likes the Democrats. They are as popular as the Republicans, maybe less so. They lost the House, Senate, and Presidency in 8 years while being slaughtered all over the country. And yet, now we're supposed to believe that what America really wants is to return to those days but instead of with an intelligent young President, we now want to be lead by a doddering fool.

In truth most people don't care

Jan 2020 Gallup
Dems 45% favorable, 52% unfavorable
Republicans, 51% favorable, 46% unfavorable

Party affiliation
Republicans 30%
Democrats, 30%
Independents, 36%

So, are the Democrats supposed to ignore the two thirds that didn't choose Sanders? Every election has a winner and some losers. Sanders lost this one. He doesn't get to be the nominee because a few of you are bitter about it. As for Sanders followers being deplorables, those are your words, not those I've heard from the Biden camp.

Interesting that you've annointed yourself the spokesman for all Sanders voters and know that they think as you do. At least you got to vote. My state hasn't even held it's primary yet. My vote won't count for much but I'm not angry. I never figured it would tip the balance anyway.
